Q. Why would I use a DPM flange?
A. A DPM (damp proof membrane) flange should be used in floors where a damp proof membrane is present. The DPM flange allows the damp proof membrane covering to be securely clamped to the gully body, ensuring that damp can’t rise around the gully and up into the building.
Q. Why would I use a Puddle flange?
A. A puddle flange, typically a 40 x 3mm flange allows subsurface liquids to be drained into the drainage system. The puddle flange will catch any liquids, which may seep down between the floor finish and gully joint and drain off into the drainage system through a series of weep holes in the gully body. A puddle flange also reduces the risk of water entering the building by capillary action, and also acts as an anchor holding the gully firmly in place.
Q. What maintenance is required for the Kent Stainless clean room gully, and how often should it be carried out?
A. Once the clean room gully is secured and the cover is ready for installation, the seal in the cover is to be liberally lubricated with a water based sealant or grease, before being fitted in the gully. Failure to do so can result in the seal being damaged by the edge of the gully, or by constant use.
To ensure that the seal does not dry up in the gully the cover needs to be removed once a month and the seal lubricated.
This is very important and will ensure that the seal will remain in good condition and the covers will be easily removable with the suction cup lifter.
It is therefore of great importance that the seal is lubricated as set out above, to maintain the life of the seal.
Q. How do I install a Kent Stainless Double Sealed Manhole?
A. When the manhole is being installed, please ensure that the tray is fitted in the frame. This will prevent both the tray and frame from distorting when the concrete is being poured and whilst concrete is setting.
Once the concrete has set the tray can then be removed and the grease seal area can be filled with Marine grade grease, to a depth of 3mm below the top of the channel recess.
The depth and condition of the grease should be checked at constant intervals of every two to three months.
The above details are to ensure that the true benefits of the double sealed manhole are properly achieved throughout the life of the manhole.
