DESCRIPTION
Project Overview
Wembley Stadium, located in Wembley, London, opened in 2007 and stands as one of the largest stadiums in the UK with a capacity of 90,000. The stadium was built over the original Wembley station, which operated from 1927 until 2003. Kent Stainless was selected by Foster & Partners to provide custom-designed bollards for the stadium area, building on previous work completed near their London offices at Battersea Reach.
Key Features
- Bespoke Bollard Design: Kent Stainless was tasked with designing a removable bollard with no breakable hinged lids or padlocks on the sockets, meeting Foster & Partners’ unique requirements.
- Grade 316 Stainless Steel: The KFT-101/3 bollards are made from 101mm diameter stainless steel with a 3mm thick Grade 316 wall, offering outstanding durability and corrosion resistance.
- Polished Finish: The bollards are polished to a 320 grit finish, achieving an Ra value of less than 0.5 for a smooth, aesthetically pleasing surface.
- Custom Size & Reflective Strip: The standard bollard length is 1200mm, with 300mm cast below ground and 900mm above ground. Each bollard is fitted with a recessed 15mm high reflective strip located 100mm from the top for added visibility.
Additional Products and Features
- Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Area Drains: Kent Stainless supplied durable, heavy-duty heelproof area drains for Olympic Way in Wembley, ensuring high-performance drainage for high-traffic areas.
- LED Handrails: Kent Stainless also provided LED handrails for steps in Wembley Park, combining safety features with modern lighting.
- Additional Bollards & Manholes: Additional bollards and internal recessed double-sealed manholes were supplied for the Brent Civic Centre, complementing the stadium’s design and functionality.
Utility Installations
- Custom Bollard Installation: The bespoke bollards were installed around Wembley Stadium, ensuring both security and accessibility while maintaining aesthetic harmony with the surrounding architecture.
- Drainage and Access Solutions: Heavy-duty drains and recessed manholes were strategically placed to ensure efficient drainage and ease of access for maintenance.
